Net Energy Metering is a participation program offered by your utility company that allows homeowners to receive financial credit or credit in kW/h for the excess of energy their system produces and gives back to their grid. You will receive a credit reimbursement for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) produced by your solar system. During times of peak production, such as a summer afternoon, you may produce more electricity than consumed. However, your utility company will only charge you for the "net" electricity consumed from the grid. With NEM you can elect to pay your bill on an annual basis-as opposed to monthly-although you will still receive monthly statements.
