ElectricAL main panel

The Electrical Main Panel (EMP) is a component of your home's electrical system that provides connectivity to your electric utility, distribution of electricity to the different circuits in your home, and protection from short circuits or overload conditions. Your solar system needs to be connected to the EMP so that the energy generated can be supplied to your home or be exported to the electric grid.

EMPs are designed to handle a given amount of current and handle a fixed number and type of circuit breakers. So, depending on when your home was built and/or the type of EMP installed, your EMP may be outdated, or have limited current capacity, or may not have space for additional circuit breakers. If this is the case, the EMP will need to be upgraded prior to, or as part of your Solar System installation.

The Electric Main Panel Upgrade includes the EMP, labor and materials, required permits and inspections, and wall/stucco finishing.

If required, upgrading your Electric Main Panel (EMP) will allow connectivity of the Solar System and provide capability to handle more current and add more circuit breakers. Upgrading the EMP may also facilitate the installation of the desired or larger Solar System or if you are considering adding storage batteries and/or an Electric Vehicle Charging outlet.

The new Electric Main Panel will be installed in the same location as the original panel. As an option and if possible, we will flush-mount the new panel into the wall for better aesthetics.

To meet local electrical code, for example maintaining a minimum distance from a gas line, trench work may be required.

The cost to upgrade the Electric Main Panel, if required, is small relative to the benefits, especially if you are considering adding more electric capacity, an Electric Vehicle Charging outlet, or Storage Batteries.

Costs related to upgrading the Electric Main Panel, required for Solar System installation are considered part of the Solar System cost and are eligible for the the Federal Investment Tax Credit.
