LA Solar Group

Carport solar systems installation in Los Angeles and across California has been gaining popularity with residential and commercial property owners. Carports make sense for solar because it’s all about maximizing the space available to generate more renewable energy…while providing shade for vehicles as well. Lately, LA Solar Group has been getting involved in helping buildings and homes gain the benefits of solar carports.

How Carports Make Sense for Solar

Solar carports can exist just about anywhere vehicles are parked. Many buildings without a parking structures, such as schools, have added solar with shade for their occupants and visitors. Not only does the shade help reduce the Heat Island Effect (increase of temperatures in metropolitan areas compared to surrounding rural areas due to human activities) but serves to also generate a substantial amount of solar power to help reduce energy expenses.

Unlike roof top solar, carports don’t require setbacks or fire clearance. Because most home and buildings are occupied, Fire Code requires a certain number square footage on the roof to be free of any solar. This allows firemen to access the roof and gain entrance into the building during an emergency such a fire.

Structural Integrity

Since carports are unoccupied structures, this allows full maximization of solar on every square foot.  As long as the carport meets the structural integrity of local building code, LA Solar Group can install and activate a carport solar system within 30 days. One differentiating factor between a residential and commercial carport solar system is the material used to building the structure. Commercial carports will require a steel metal foundation, while residential carports require a wood foundation.  We also provide an engineering assessment onsite to help design and construct a carport solar system that’s optimized for solar generation and energy savings.
